Blog image

  • Finnish higher education institutions now offer over 600 Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes in English offered by the 13 universities and 22 universities of applied sciences (UAS).
  • The country’s universities routinely rank in the top third globally (for example, in the QS Quacquarelli Symonds Rankings 2026, Finnish institutions like Aalto University (#114) and University of Helsinki (#116) appear.
  • Finland topped the table for most livable country for many years, and it offers work and settlement opportunities after studies which is attracting more international students from Asia.
  • Finland offers a safe, high-quality education environment, and while the total number of international students may be smaller than some major hubs, the upward trend and favourable conditions make it attractive.

Don’t be late, because Finnish application deadlines tend to be earlier than many other European countries, international applicants should plan well ahead.

If you are preparing for final documents and required tests to apply for the admission, then you are on the right track, now add deadlines to your planner and nullify the disappointments of missing the deadlines.

The national admissions portal Finnish National Agency for Education (EDUFI) highlights that English-taught Bachelor’s & Master’s programmes in Finland are accessible via the national portal and many institutions publish their admission details in English, so you can always refer to it as and when needed, however find the ready reckoner below to make your plans perfect

Finland has major two intake cycles; so plan your applications for the right one

There are two main intake cycles that you should consider:

  • September 2026 (Autumn intake) – this is the primary intake for most Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes in English in Finland.
  • January 2027 (Spring intake) – fewer programmes, but offers a second opportunity if you miss the main one. Some institutions call it Spring or Winter intake. According to general guides, for a start in January, the application window often opens several months earlier and fewer options are available.

Because of this, for each cycle you’ll want to check two things:

  1. The exact application period for your programme and institution.
  2. Whether it is a “joint application” period (via Studyinfo.fi) or a “separate application”/rolling admission period (which may differ).

Check out these sample universities & their deadlines.

If your preferred university is not on the list and you want information about it, get in touch with my study offer’s experts and we will assist you with all information on deadlines, applications, and documentation.

1. University of Helsinki (UoH)

The University of Helsinki is one of Finland’s major research universities and offers many international Master’s and Bachelor’s in English.

  • For studies starting Autumn 2026: Application period for many of its International Master’s programmes is 2–16 January 2026.
  • For Bachelor’s Admission Group 2: 10–24 March 2026 for Autumn 2026 start.
  • UoH – Master’s programmes “have one intake per academic year”.
2. University of Eastern Finland (UEF)

UEF is another English-taught friendly institution.

  • Application period for its Bachelor’s & Master’s English-taught programmes: 7 21 January 2026 (first joint national application round) for studies starting September.
  • Early application period for its Economics & Business Administration programmes: 1 – 15 October 2025 for Autumn 2026 start.
3. XAMK – South‑Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences

As a University of Applied Sciences (UAS), XAMK provides more practically oriented programmes.

  • For Autumn (September) 2026: Rolling admissions/ separate applications indicate application period opens 15 Nov 2025 for August 2026 intake.
  • For January 2027: Likely similar early window—monitor university’s “separate application” section, to find out exact deadline.
4. LUT University

LUT provides engineering/business oriented programmes with international options.

  • For international rolling admission Bachelor’s programmes: Application period 1 November 2025 – 31 March 2026 (for Autumn 2026 start).
  • This sets a later window compared to others, but keep in mind “rolling” means seats may fill early.
  • For January 2027: Rolling admission may also apply—check programme page nearer.

Because of the early timeline and the international competition, planning ahead is very important—especially for students from India (or elsewhere outside EU/EEA) who will need to complete language tests, pay application fees, and arrange residence permits.

Understand these two Key terms
  • Joint application : A centralised application round through Studyinfo .fi for multiple programmes and institutions.
  • Separate application / Rolling admission: Some programmes/institutions allow applications outside the joint window or on a rolling basis.

Joint applications, separate application, rolling applications are terms many students find difficulties understanding so write to university you are interested and they will guide you through or you may connect with expert student advisors at My Study Offers.com

Recommendations for International Applicants (Non-EU/EEA)

  • For September 2026: Late is better than never so begin your research now, if not yet started.
  • Shortlist programmes in Finland, check if they belong to the September 2026 joint application window or separate admissions.
  • Since deadlines for many are January 2026, you must complete your language test (IELTS/TOEFL) by December 2025 at latest.
  • For January 2027 intake: Even though specific deadlines are not yet all published, it is wise to begin preparing now—select programmes, verify admission criteria, and ensure you can submit as soon as the application opens.
  • Pay attention to application fees: Non-EU/EEA applicants must pay an application fee (≈ €100 for many institutions)
  • Always check each programme’s website for its exact deadline—some programmes (especially business/engineering) may have earlier or separate windows.
  • Ensure you can gather all required documents (transcripts, translations, English test, possibly SAT/ACT depending on institution) well ahead of deadline.
  • While waiting for results, prepare your residence permit application, finances, accommodation etc.

In conclusion, preparing and applying early is the key requirement to have the best chances to get admits in Finish Universities.

If you’re aiming for Finland, the September 2026 intake is the major one and requires early action. The January 2027 intake offers a viable fallback or alternative, but options may be more limited and deadlines still forthcoming. Use the sample universities and summary above as a foundation, but always verify the specific programme page for the exact application period.
