The Genuine Student (GS) Requirement-previously known as the GTE (Genuine Temporary Entrant)-is an assessment made by the Department of Home Affairs. It evaluates whether a student’s intention to come to Australia is genuinely for study and not for alternative purposes like extended work or migration.
Your visa application must demonstrate:
- A clear intention to study in Australia
- A match between your course and career goals
- That you understand the Australian education system
- Sufficient funds and support
- A temporary stay intention, even if you hope to later apply for work visas or PR
