A. Education in English Medium
Many UK universities will waive the IELTS requirement if you have completed your previous education in English. If you’ve studied in an English-medium institution (for example, in your home country or another English-speaking country), universities may accept:
- A medium of instruction letter from your previous institution, confirming that English was the language of instruction.
- If you have an undergraduate degree in English, most UK universities will not require additional proof of English proficiency.
B. Countries with English as the Official Language
If you are from a country where English is the first language or widely spoken, you may be exempt from taking IELTS. These countries typically include:
- USA
- Canada
- Australia
- New Zealand
- Singapore
- South Africa
- Ireland
Students from countries like India, Nigeria, Ghana, or the Philippines may not need IELTS if they can provide proof that their previous education was conducted in English.
